The legend of Lord Indra is yet another important legend associated with Rakhi and Raksha Bandhan festival.

Legend of Indra

According to the legends Indra, the Pauranic (according to the Hindu puranas) King of the Heavens, received setbacks at the hands of the demon king (the Daitya raja). After these reverses, Indra sought the advice of Brihaspati (the Devaguru). On the advice of the Devaguru, Indrani (the consort of Indra) tied silken amulets (Raksha Bandhan) on Indra wrists, on the auspicious occasion of Shravan Poornima. Indra, thus, defeated the Daitya-Raja (demon king) and re-established control over his celestial dwelling.
