Puja or worship Thali forms an important part of almost all Hindu rituals. Customarily, Puja Thalis contain those items which are used in worshipping the deities. Thus, the Rakhi Thali is the same as the usual Puja Thali. The Rakhi Thali contains Diya, Roli or Tika, rice, nariyal (coconut) sandalwood, dhoop sticks, Rakhi threads etc. In the Raksha Bandhan Thali, the Rakhis are kept along with Moli. Although any type of Thali can be used for the purpose but brass or silver, silver plated or gold plated Rakhi Thalis are considered more auspicious.

There is also a tradition of decorating the Raksha Bandhan Thali with different types of flowers and Swastika in the middle of the Thali. A small statue of lord Ganesha is kept in the Rakhi Thali along with Diya, Roli, rice, water and Dhoop stand. A few pieces of sweets are also kept in the Rakhi Thali.
